WHAT IS MANZANOS WINES?
Manzanos Wines is the wine division of Manzanos Enterprises. It works on the elaboration of wine in appellation Rioja, Navarra and wines from Spain since 1890. Its history is linked to the memory of a family, its effort and their good practices. As a result, ten different wineries belong to this company, which have been built along five generations of this family.
It is to be highlighted the acquisition of Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga and Bodegas Berceo in 2016, which are two of the main wineries in appellation Rioja.
The adquisition at the beginning of 2018 of the emblematic Rioja Brand Siglo and Vinícola Navarra winery and its brands Las Campanas and Castillo de Olite has been a major milestone in their winemaking history. These purchases have helped Bodegas Manzanos consolidate its positioning in the top 10 of appellation Rioja and the top 3 of appellation Navarra.
The main activity of this company is the elaboration and commercialization of appellation Rioja, as their main wineries belong to this Qualified Denomination of Origin. The wineries in which Manzanos elaborates its wines in this denomination are the following ones: Bodegas Manzanos Haro, Bodegas Manzanos Azagra, Viña Marichalar and Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga. This is possible thanks to the 300 hectares of own vineyard and 700 controlled hectares.
The wineries where we elaborate appellation Navarra wines are our most recent purchase Bodegas Manzanos Campanas (before Vinícola Navarra, the oldest winery in appellation Navarra), Castillo de Enériz and Monte Ory wineries. Manzanos owns 50 hectares of vineyards and controls 200 more in this appellation.
The wineries in which Wine from Spain is made, are: Bodegas Mosen Pierre, Bodegas El Lagar de la Aldea and Bodegas Gurpegui. Manzanos Wines controls 150 hectares.
After more than 125 years dedicated to the wine culture, Manzanos Wines has 250 own hectares and 700 controlled hectares in the Rioja appellation. Together with the rest of hectares included in appellation Navarra and Wines from Spain, the company sums up a total of 1.525 hectares.
One of the main assets of Manzanos Wines is the wide extension of own vineyard. Each area and each valley of the Rioja land have unique features. These features widely depend on the relation between the climate, the ground and the vineyard. Not to forget about the importance of the production and elaboration techniques that are imposed by our technical team. Both factors together determine the singularity of each wine.
Our vineyards are distributed throughout different municipalities, it allows the exploitation of the different lands as well as the differences of each variety of grape.
This diversity also makes possible for Manzanos Wines’ wineries to create wines that show the potential and the features of each area, with a common identity that is easy to recognize.
Wine is considered to be the link that joins people together, friends and family. That is what has happened in Fernández de Manzanos family, since they have known how to preserve and how to consolidate this ancient culture during more than 125 years. After more than a century related with the wine culture, the fifth generation of this family is the one who takes the lead of Manzanos Wines. The brothers Víctor and David Fernández de Manzanos, as well as Victor´s wife, Laura Mateo, are the visible faces of the wine division of Manzanos Enterprises. Nevertheless, the history of this family goes back to the XX century. Since then, they have become such a big wine group thanks to their effort and their good practices growing the vineyards and elaborating wine.
Since these three entrepreneur youngsters arrived, there has been an exponential growth of the sales and there has been an increase of their presence in the international market (exceeding more than 60 countries) in less than three years. There have also been changes within the wineries, as they have been transformed from being buildings without any use, to remodeled facilities full of life. This way, David, Victor and Laura have closed the circle that was started by the previous generations, keeping functioning the wineries created more than one century ago.
In 2016, when Manzanos Wines acquired Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga and Bodegas Berceo. Bodegas Berceo is one of the most emblematic wineries of Rioja appellation. Some time ago, the family added to the group the first winery from Navarra appellation: Castillo de Enériz.
The top of this expansion arrived in the beginning of 2018, with the adquisition of the emblematic Rioja Brand Siglo and Vinícola Navarra winery and its brands Las Campanas and Castillo de Olite has been a major milestone in their winemaking history. These purchases have helped Bodegas Manzanos consolidate its positioning in the top 10 of appellation Rioja and the top 3 of appellation Navarra.
The youngsters of the fifth generation have known how to face the challenges and have consolidated a future project thanks to their entrepreneur character, as well as their commitment and sacrifice. This work has been rewarded with the position that holds Manzanos Wines, as one of the reference groups of the wine sector both in Spain and international countries.
